Start With What’s In Front of You.
“As always, start your day with us here tomorrow,’ I turned off the news on my car radio. Letting out a big sigh, out loud I cried “What is my role in all of this?”. The heartbreaking news made me feel suddenly small and insignificant.
But moments later, as I sat waiting for my light to turn green, contemplating these earth-shattering things, I looked over to my left.
There, a mural painted on a random building’s side said “Do good in your neighborhood”.
Hmm. I knew instantly in my heart, this was an answer to my cry. A simple truth — start with what’s in front of you.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, weighed down by the problems and pains of the world. Hopeless about your part. But it’s always simpler than what we think.
Where are you planted today? What environment are you placed in? Who is in front of you? Your neighbor? Your coworker? Your classmates, family, and friends?
Maybe your role is to just love and care for what is right in front of you. It is a simple act that we often forget to do. But the impact is vast. It’s important. It’s what we were created for.
I plan on discussing this concept a lot more next month in November, as we will invite you to come alongside us to explore what it looks like to tangibly love what’s in front of us.
This week may you be gentle with yourself while also looking for opportunities to pour into those around you too.
