Don’t Rush Your Mountaintop Moments

I have found that I have a hard time processing life’s big moments. The moments that we highly anticipate. That we wait for, dream about, and work towards.

We are so eager and excited to climb towards mountaintop moments — new jobs or relationships. Our wedding day or health goals. Promotions, holidays, and family trips. A new home or a special gathering.

Yet, when we get there, we forget to stop and savor the moment. We forget to take in the view. We forget to reflect and to give thanks. We often are just ready to hurry onto the next thing.

This week, I had a mountain-top moment. I got to head back to my alma mater, the University of Nebraska, and deliver a workshop to 50 student-athletes. My past jobs never required travel, so this was my first ever work trip AND it was for my own company.

There were so many mini-moments that led up to this big one. So many brave steps, hours of work, excitement, some doubts and fears. The big moment came and went, as fast as all other minutes tick by throughout our day.

It would be easy to come back home and already look ahead, to go after what’s next — the next opportunity or open door. And I will, eventually. But not today. Today, I will savor what happened this week. I will take time to be grateful. To reflect and be. To celebrate and enjoy.

This week, would you give yourself space to take in the view of your mountaintop moments too. Don’t forget, these moments were once your hopes and dreams. So at the very least, they deserve a minute to be celebrated, cherished, and enjoyed.
